In defense of my Bishop.
Bishop Tobin tweeted the other day. Many supported him, but many bombarded him with negative tweets. The negative tweets were mostly by pro-choice zealots, Trump, Christian, and God-haters, all of whom do not understand the role of a sitting Bishop when it comes to church doctrine. Bishop Tobin's job is to do just what he did. As a Catholic, you cannot be pro-abortion or pro-choice and be a Catholic. Abortion is unacceptable in the Catholic Church's teachings. His job is to admonish the sin when he sees it even if he sees it in a Catholic newspaper; it doesn't make a difference.
Bishop Tobin dares to speak out on this issue, which is going to be important in this year’s general election. I applaud his stand. He speaks the truth. Even if you take religion out of the issue, people are going to have to decide pro-abortion or pro-life. Or, put another way pro-death or pro-life.
If you are a Catholic politician, then you must know that the abortion cannonball is shooting across your bow. The old Mario Cuomo argument about being personally opposed as a Catholic on moral grounds, but not having the right to impose personal religious views on society does not hold water. It is not about religious morals; it is about a fundamental human right to life.
“Abortion is profoundly anti-women. Three-quarters of its victims are women: Half the babies and all the mothers.” Mother Theresa
